We’re inviting Black, Asian and Mixed-Heritage female referees to take part in the Campaign 243 Survey.
Campaign 243 was set up to better understand the experiences of female officials from these backgrounds. When this work began, there were 243 such referees. That number has now grown to 387—but there’s still more to do.
This survey is the first step in gathering insight that will help shape real change. It’s completely anonymous, and findings will be shared at Conference 2025 and used to inform future advocacy.
The survey was developed by the Campaign 243 Committee in collaboration with Dr Paul Campbell, Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Inclusivity in Higher Education at the University of Leicester and Loughborough.
At BAMREF, we are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in football officiating. Our organisation stands at the forefront of empowering Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage football officials, ensuring they have the support and resources they need to thrive on the pitch.
The new mentoring programme will see over 40 referee mentors trained up and deployed across the country, providing bespoke support to referees from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage backgrounds who complete The FA’s bursary funded training course. Mentees will benefit from monthly 1-2-1 meetings with their mentor who will share advice and support as they prepare to referee their first match and beyond.
At 'BAMREF' we aim to give a voice and support to all officials from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage communities who have experienced racism, discrimination and exclusion to ensure we engage with the relevant footballing authorities and hold all relevant parties accountable.
To be proactive and progressive in the pursuit of equality, inclusion and fairness, while creating a culture of building positive relationships, unifying us all through the love of sport.
'To create the most inclusive network for Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage officials in the sporting world'.
